Nearly 400 competitors were in attendance, representing numerous states throughout the USA, and several countries, including Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Russia, Canada and England.

The event began with an opening ceremony that offered recognition to all schoosl participanting in the event and special recognition of several Queens Taekwon-do students who competed in the 2011 ITF World Championship in New Zealand: Julio Carlos, World Champion in Sparring Senior Men Light Weight; Joshua Buitrago, World Champion in Junior Pattern 2nd dan and Kiabeth Jimenez, Silver medal in Junior Patterns 2nd dan as well Professor William Perlaza as Coach and Professor Gustavo Naranjo for his contribution to make possible the success of ITF New York Taekwon-do Tournament from 1996 to the present.

The competition at the tournament was demanding, and significant progress in both sportsmanship and technique was exhibited by certain schools since last year. Moreover, the larger representation of referees and judges from numerous schools was a notable improvement over previous years and helped contribute to our goal of enhancing the quality of the NY Tournament each year.

The event began at 10:00AM and concluded at 7:00PM and although (as is true with any competition) there were certain concerns and areas in need of improvement, the tournament proved an overall success.

Master Suarez would like to give a special thanks to the Masters Roberto DelCid, Pedro Candelario, Carlos Ramirez, William Martinez, Ramon Mateo, Miguel Reyes and Master Gonzalo Camelo for their support at the XVI ITF New York Taekwon-do Tournament, as well as all students and instructors for their participation.

2010 USA World Qualifiers and National Championship

On August 13th and 14th competitors from all around the United States were in San Jose, California competing in the USA Nationals and World Qualifiers. The turn out was very good and for the first time the tournament was opened up to Blue Belts and above in a non-qualifying category. Opening up the tournament allowed the newer competitors the opportunity to experience the high level of excellence that is required to be a National Champion. The intense amount of rigorous training and dedication was apparent and exhibited by the new and returning competitors in all categories: Patterns, Sparring, and Breaking.

Many of the matches were incredibly close but in the end the best competitors won and earned a spot on the United States team. This team will represent the United States at Worlds, which will be held in New Zealand in March 2011. The hard work doesn't stop now for these athletes as they will be spending the next several months getting ready for the highly acclaimed World Championship.

We would like to thank all of the competitors and instructors for their fantastic support of the event. We would also like to thank all of the Umpires and the Masters, namely Master Suarez, Master Thibado, and Master Bosse, as well as the ITF-USA board for all their hard work.
We wish all of the competitors luck and know that they will make the rest of us proud.

See you all in New Zealand! -Jason Morris, Mightyfist Taekwon-Do.
